Introducing Oregon Canoe Sport's
myRivers
A personal river information control panel, featuring graphic displays of your favorite rivers' flow conditions.
myRivers provides quick access to the flow data for five rivers of your choice. Select from among all the USGS gauging stations in the U.S., for your own, personalized report. Additionally, handy links to other sources are provided (like Pat Welch's site, or NOAA weather). To enter, simply click on the screenshot below:

myRivers allows you to specify which river flows chart displays on each of its five tabbed pages (if flows are unavailable for a station, gauge height is given instead). If you click on the "Select Rivers" button and then click on the "Set river selection" button (with or without changing the selected rivers), a cookie will be saved with your preferences. From then on, when you click on the "myRivers" button on the OCS Resources Page, your report will be automatically loaded, bypassing this page.

myRivers opens into its own, small window (optimized for 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 displays) which you can then minimize and call up when you want to check levels. The program is small (40KB, not counting the USGS pages) and uses almost no system resources, yet is ready at the click of your mouse to give you the latest readings.

To use this program, you must have a current browser. myRivers uses features of CSS, JavaScript, and XHTML that require an up-to-date, standards-compatible browser. The code was developed and tested in Mozilla 1.1, 1.2.1 and Internet Explorer 6 (Mozilla is my favorite and is the most standards-compliant browser now available). Since myRivers creates a convenient pop-up window to display the readings, it is not compatible with pop-up blockers.

Webmasters in other regions who would like to feature myRivers on their site with their local rivers on the selection list may contact me for source code. Use of the code will require an agreement to limit alterations.
