11/21/02 McKenzie River as reported in the Statesman Journal   "The McKenzie River Ranger District has discovered a log blocking the upper McKenzie River ¹/8 mile upstream from the Deer Creek Bridge. There is no safe passage, and officials strongly recommend you not float the upper McKenzie above Deer Creek until the hazard is cleared. Boaters should not put in at Ollalie boat launch. Use Frissel or Paradise instead. "

6/12/02 N. Santiam River as reported in the Mill City Independent Press   "A large tree fell in the river at lower Indian Rapids, just above DeWitt Falls. It blocks off the left side of the river, and is a potential hazard. If you know it is there, it can be avoided. If someone is not paying close attention, it could be a problem."

At the drop adjacent to Whispering Falls Campground, river-wide strainers require portage. A deceptive, apparent route on river left is blocked by hidden debris. Otherwise, strainers reported earlier this year, on this stretch, appear to have washed out.

3/15/02 Breitenbush River
Filed by: J. Bradley
Reported by: A. Boesen.
A large number of trees have found their way into the river since recent windstorms scoured the canyon. Hazardous conditions and frequent, mandatory portages are reported.

Update: Most of the Breitenbush trees are reported to have been cleared by the April high water. Some remain, but are negotiable.

2/10/02 Thomas Creek, Jordan Dam to Hannah Bridge
Filed by: J. Bradley
About half-way down this run, numerous large trees have obstructed the channel, requiring portage, river right. The put in is above a steep, strainer-obstructed drop, requiring an immediate ferry to an island for another short portage.
